The film's production budget was $60 million. In a September 2005 interview, executive producer John Wells suggested that a second Doom movie could be created if the first was a box office success. The Doom 3 version of the BFG9000 looks more like a Halo Assault Rifle. Pinky, however, has wheels for hind legs, instead of mechanical hind legs and the BFG9000 looks more like a real life gun. Every monster and weapon in the film is Doom 3 style. The film's design also featured the involvement of id Software, helping to ensure that things looked "authentic". It is likely that the success of Doom 3 played a part in prompting the eventual production of the film. The film is closer in style to the horror game Doom 3 rather than the original action games, Doom and Doom II: Hell on Earth. The DVD was released on February 7, 2006, and the Blu-Ray version was released on February 10, 2009. It was released on Octoin North America and Decemin the United Kingdom. While the third entry in the company's legendary action series still has its following, Doom 3 is often criticized for being too dark. Developer id Software has made its mark on first-person shooting, pretty much single-handedly creating the blueprint for the genre in the early days, with the studio still able to make a significant impact on FPS gaming to this day. Doom 3 took the series down a more horror route when it released in 2004, and its slow-paced mechanics is something one fan wanted to move away from, as a mod makes the game play more like Doom Eternal, or even one of the classic entries.
